The doc for method:
public Dimension getPreferredSize()
of class javax.swing.DefaultTreeCellRenderer
says:
Overrides JComponent.getPreferredSize to
return slightly wider preferred size value.
It is hard to verify "slightly wider preferred size value" in
automated mode.

Yes, this method widens the preferred size by 3 pixels. But this is the sort of implementation detail we don't want to make public. I verified this with the responsible engineer (sky) and he said:
It is an implementation detail as to how much wider it makes it.
Closing as will not fix.
