Since I'm requesting a jdk port that doesn't exist, it would be difficult to
execute java -version.
Please, port jdk-1.2.x (and future releases) to FreeBSD.

As a member of the free software community, I appreciate Sun's recent commitment
to providing a supported jdk for linux. However, linux is not the only fish in
the free OS ocean; many linux users (myself included) eventually migrate to the
*BSD systems.

Yet I am unable to use FreeBSD at work due to the lack of a good jdk-1.2
implementation. Though we use FreeBSD for a variety of tasks, we cannot use it
as a production server for our servlet projects. I usually end up doing
development on my linux box, then using NT as the production platform.

The lack of a jdk-1.2 implementation for FreeBSD helps no one except Microsoft.

The FreeBSD commmunity would greatly appreciate either a supported jdk port or
help from Sun in the ongoing FreeBSD-java porting project:

BTW, I chose solaris 7 as the OS above due to lack of an 'other' choice.

I would like to request a port of the JDK/JVM be made available for OpenBSD.
We would like to run a servlet implementation on OpenBSD but find the Java
options/support for this platform lacking. It's my opinion that JWS with
servlets would prove a great combination on OpenBSD. Since a JDK/JVM port does
not exist yet, we will have to implement other solutions.

Internally we run many shared services on OpenBSD. It has been very reliable
and secure. In fact, our focus is providing secure web solutions. A port to
OpenBSD would be a great help in furthering secure computing.

Please consider porting the JDK/JVM to OpenBSD and the other *BSDs. The
combination of Java and the *BSDs would be very complimentary.

If JDK is not possible at the moment, JRE for BSD is good enough.

ava version "1.3.1"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.1-b24)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.3.1-b24, mixed mode)

Please support more platforms for the standard Java JDK/JVM. FreeBSD, BeOS, Tru64, AIX, HPUX,
and many more platforms need to have 1.3 or 1.4 minimum for Java to gain even more ground.
The JavaVM should be everywhere and supported on as many platforms as possible.

It is possible to use the linux jdk under FreeBSD using linux emulation. While
many FreeBSD users do this, it is far from an optimal solution. The following
FreeBSD port will grab the linux jdk and apply the necessary patches:

The FreeBSD organization, with the sterling work of the freebsd java porting group are bundling Java into the Freebsd release as per the FreeBSD press release.

Along with the blackdown.org linux porting group I (calvin) will be assisting Freebsd if needed.
