Synopsis Setup failure on Win2K machines > 4 GB memory
Category java:install
Reported Against 1.3
Release Fixed
State 11-Closed, duplicate of 4406594, bug
Priority: 4-Low
Related Bugs 4406594
Submit Date 14-AUG-2000
Description

Not possible due to the problem's customer

It's not possible to install the SDK on a
MS Windows 2000 Advanced server which has more then 4 GB of
physical memory.
If you start the setup on a machine with 7.8 GB free memory,
you get the error message 'Insufficient memory available to run Setup.
Error 111.'
Further installation is not possible.

Comment: Is seems to be a problem of the InstallShield tool. They seem
to have a numeric overflow when detecting the available memory, and the
value becomes negative.

Work Around

Run some memory intensive applications before the setup! If the free memory is
below 2 GB, the setup works without problems.

This is a duplicate of bug 4406594, I believe this bug can be seen on all win32 platforms.

WorkAround. In the Win2k Resource Kit there is an
application called "My Leaky App", start several sessions
of this application until your availible memory gets near 2
gig. The installation wizard runs fine at that point.

PLEASE NOTE: JDK6 is formerly known as Project Mustang
