There are two reasons.
1) JavaSoundRenderer failed due to that jsound.dll/so were being loaded twice.
2) sun.awt.DrawingSurfaceInfo is removed from jdk1.4, so all the native
video renderers crashed.

A bug filed against Java Sound which seemed completely unrelated was due to this bug in JMF. There is no workaround possible for Java Sound in Merlin, so an update to JMF 2.1.1 or later is necessary to have Java Sound functionality in JMF. See also Java Sound bug #4504865.
