recommiting to Tiger.
This feature will be seriously considered for Tiger. rt.jar can be broken
up into optionally installed components and made available for Install on
Demand. The infrastructure for such support in the installer will be available
in the 1.4.2 timeframe.

We have a similar request into sun, to give us a way to
customize the jre to exclude all the unecessary packages!
We just moved our application from 1.1.8 to 1.3 and the
application bloat in download size doubled!!! if we were to
move to 1.4 it would double yet again! this is unaccpetable.
We don't need every media solution or database hook etc...
we need a light client side application. Right now there is
serious consideration to move away from java because of this
situation.
PLEASE NOTE: JDK6 is formerly known as Project Mustang
