which is essentially the same as this bug. Executive
summary: there are source files which if compiled under
1.3.x will not run under 1.4.2, and Xerces has such a file.
(In fact that bug shows that some such source files also
cannot run under 1.3.x if compiled under 1.4.x!)
It is nice to know that the 1.3.x-generated bytecode is
invalid, but that is cold comfort to someone actually using
both 1.3.x and 1.4.x; what options do you have? Either the
1.4.2 VM must be made to accept the invalid bytecode
(perhaps only with some -X switch, which should be mentioned
in the detail message of the ClassFormatError); or some
1.3.1_04 must be released with a fixed javac; or some tool
to fix up the broken bytecode must be provided.

If the MS JVM is used the problem does not appear. But using
the Sun JVM causes our IPMonitor reporst to error with the
Illegal UTF8 string in constant pool error.
I do not know which Java version was used to compile the
Plug-in but it appears accross our network services IP
Monitor reports if we upgrade to 1.4.1
PLEASE NOTE: JDK6 is formerly known as Project Mustang
