Synopsis Applet loads slowly
Category java_plugin:install
Reported Against 1.4.1
Release Fixed
State 11-Closed, duplicate of 4607280, request for enhancement
Priority: 4-Low
Related Bugs 4607280 , 4759129
Submit Date 06-MAR-2003
Description

A DESCRIPTION OF THE REQUEST :
It takes much longer time to load applet if to use Java Plug-In with browsers. In case of MS VM or NN4 JVM applet loads much faster. If Java Plug-In has option to get loaded into RAM at OS start time and stay in RAM always, I would probably use that option if it speeds up the applet load process.

JUSTIFICATION :
Applet starts slowly. It causes much inconvinience and makes me thinking about MS VM :-( .

EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
Applet starts immediately.
Applet starts slowly.

CUSTOMER SUBMITTED WORKAROUND :
  To continue suffering it.

Why would you duplicate the ORIGINAL bug reported back on
10/17/2002 which contained specific details, history, and
votes for a NEW bug report from 3/6/2003 with hardly
anything? Forgive my criticism here, as I am aware that it
is not necessarily appropriate to do so in this forum, but
with this mindset, it's no wonder Sun is having such a
problem maintaining consistency in it's Java platform; these
days every app seems to have to bundle its own Java version
because that's the only one it will work with.

Further, you may want to consider making this bug a
duplicate of bug 4607280 (posted 12/13/2001 and active ever
since with 260+ votes so far) which, at this point, seems to
address the topic of Java VM startup performance in great
detail.
