This is excellent. There are plenty of cases where the line between a client and a server is blurred and where light-weight HTTP server features are needed outside of the J2EE container. This will be very helpful.

A light-weight HTTP server can be implemented with a several custom classes. It's unnecessary to overload the API with such specific features.

And while you are at it, how about an SPI for accounts payable. I vote no - make the API smaller and faster and good on multiprocessors, it has enough features.
