I need more information.
Which OS is this? Which locale is it running in? What is the multi-byte character? Is it possible that this is running in a English (or non-multi-byte locale) and trying to install into a multi-byte path?

This is different from 4895647. 4895647 is related to installation to multibyte path on an English locale environment. But this bug is reproducible in localized French OS.
