just waiting 10s for the heartbeat echo seems 
not reliable enough.

SUGGESTED FIX

Adding suspend/resume heartbeat while applet is in between start and started,
or failed to start and stop.
This makes the heartbeat more reliable and shall
circumvent a false heartbeat timeout on content checking machines,
while downloading the code.
